I really wish ghostly vengeance was a thing, because if anyone deserved to be dragged into the netherworld as they were declaring their triumph…

I had today off, which I used for important things like shopping and laundry. I went to Shake Shack and tried the chicken nuggets (greasy), Thai iced tea milkshake (horrifyingly sweet), and fries (fine), so that wasn’t successful. Bah. Then I worked on catching up here, which went a little better, as I started two weeks behind.

Watched (live action): Lockwood & Co 1: Teenaged ghost hunters in a modern Britain where the dead have inexplicably haunted the night for fifty years and putting them down is a profession for the psychically sensitive. I’m pretty sure there’s supposed to be chemistry between the male and female lead, but I guess you have to expect some het romance on Netflix.

Read (manga): Komi Can’t Communicate vol 32 (Tomohito Oda): Assorted drama with weird classmates, but Komi is at 81/100 friends, and her speech bubbles just have a slightly lighter font than normal. We must be nearing the triumphant conclusion.

Read (manga): Dandadan vol 10 (Yukinobu Tatsu): Not only are people cursed, but unbeatable aliens are attacking everyone individually! Unfair!

Written: Rearranged some that I will call 184 and added 158 for a total of 342 terrible game design.

Three cheers for the NLRB!

We even had some strike events come up in Lunar Rails, although I was so far behind that it didn’t help me at all. I don’t think I made any plays that were actively bad, but people who knew what they were doing were so much more efficient that it came as a great shock when Dave used the connect-the-cities victory condition to win.

Finally it was time for Dave and I to return, which did not go as smoothly as going out. The bus from Roseville to Sacramento was very late, although not so late we missed the train connection, and the train to San Jose was not quite early enough to catch the second-to-last bus. We ended up walking to my place and getting there at like 22:30, and then Dave had to catch the very last bus to get to his place. It did work out in the end, though.

Sage and Nightvale were taken very good care of by Marith, although it turned out to have been a mistake to given them a spare litterbox without a top, and mybathroom is now full of litter. Seems like a problem for Tuesday Me.

Read: The Fallen City of Lescado (Draith): Book 2/7, OP isekai girl is making friends and killing zombies and clearing dungeons and leveling up.

Written: VACATION

To the extent the Supreme Court will let us not have kings, anyway.

I went back to Ayse’s skeleton farm to build up levels and complete my diamond suit. I broke the anvil, though, so I had to go home to finish up. Also I’m going to need to go back to drop off a new anvil.

In the evening, I trundled over to Monkeycat Towers to see fireworks. I meant to be on time, but was suddenly starving as I passed In’n’Out, which used up all my spare time but not any extra. I also meant to be not a plague vector, but Ken was extremely nervous, so we just stayed outside and I masked the whole time. There were fireworks on that side of the hill! There were fireworks on another side of the hill! There were fireworks here and there and the other place across the city! However, when Ken and Jus were going to drive me home (because the bus doesn’t run late on holidays) there was a large and alarming fire on the next hill over and there had to be a delay so that they could pack bags and cats in case of evacuation. I did eventually get home, though, and also nobody I know was incinerated.

Thanks, everybody who fought for democracy, and if you’d like to rise up and drag someone down to hell, I have suggestions…

Didn’t sleep in quite as much today, because I had to be on call from 13-19, but still a lot. Would have worked better if I hadn’t lost my sleep mask, but oh well. Spent a lot of the day playing Minecraft.

Also National Chocolate Mint Day, another one for Marith.

No work today, and I’m not even on call, so I was able to get pastrami and ice cream and manga and groceries and be a lump.

Written: I kept starting further and further into that scene and it kept not being right, so eventually I just moved on to the next scene and told instead of showed. This is the kind of thing that happens when I have a Kit to talk writing with.

Let’s watch all the Republicans whine when they get judged by the content of their character!

It’s a holiday, but I had to cover the afternoon, and ended up watching a lot of training video. Now I know a little bit more about kubernetes than I did before, or at least can put what I know into a little bit more context.

Read: The Skull Dragon’s Precious Daughter vol 2 (Ichi Yukishiro): More dragons, more magic, some dwarves, an elf, and an adorable baby.

Happy Merry to all who celebrate!

I celebrated by doing nothing useful all day and then going over to Ayse and Ken’s to eat food and see people and admire Jus’s presents and stuff. Poor Nonny is pretty sick, but I risked the germs for companionship. Even Marith did!

Despite most of the food being carbs, my arm widget didn’t freak out. It’s almost like eating a real meal made of real food is better than microwaving one unit of Capitalism Chow. (Also, ham.)

Written: FAIL.

Oh no, I am not better at all, as I found out in the middle of the night. The events are too horrifying to relate, but I think it’s norovirus. I hear that’s going around, and the symptoms match. Anyway, I spent all day half-asleep, neither eating nor drinking, and not being much use for my on-call shift. New Boss R couldn’t find anyone to cover, but fortunately the customers were all observing the holiday too.

Read: Katalepsis ch 13.1-14 (Hungry): Yep, I still really like this.

Written: Ahahahaha FAIL.

Back to the answer mines! I wasn’t at work today, but I was on call. The thing for the customer was finished during my shift, so I got to announce it to them, and will take all credit for it.

Also managed to go grocery shopping this morning, which made me hate life and time but otherwise worked fine and I should be able to eat almost every day until Saturday.

Read: Stray Cat Strut ch 1-26 (RavensDagger): Dystopian cyberpunk future in which hungry aliens invade and allegedly benevolent aliens pick people to enroll in the kill-invaders-in-exchange-for-hyper-technology program. Feels a little like a video game in that guns and medical gear and cyberware appear out of nowhere the instant points are spent, but there isn’t any more to the system than that, so I’m not sure it counts as LitRPG.

Read: Butts: A Backstory (Heather Radke): A little bit about butts physically (bipedalisms, endurance hunting, etc) and a lot about butts socially, from the Hottentot Venus to Twerking on Tiktok. Spoiler: the answer is always sexism, and usually misogynoir.

Read: The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses vol 1 (Koume Fujichika): Therefore she has to lean in really close to share the male lead’s textbook, which is hard on an innocent manga boy’s heart. Cute, but very slight, and the female lead seems to mostly exist to be klutzy.

Written: 157 words. Two days in a row!

Got up before noon, although not significantly more useful today than the rest of the week.

Read: Yakuza Reincarnation vol 4 (Hiroki Miyashita, Takeshi Natsuhara): Our old old- school yakuza isekai’d into the body of a teenage princess continues to clobber people and demons who do crime wrong and befriend people who do crime right, this time including pirates. mermaids, and dwarves.

Read: Cinnamon Bun ch 330-371 (RavensDagger): Oh no, I’m caught up! Fortunately there is obviously a lot more mostly-wholesome adventure still to come.

Read: Love Crafted ch 1-44 (RavensDagger): An aspiring magic school student uses an off-brand summoning spell and ends up with a relative of Azathoth, who fortunately only wants cuddles, hugs, snuggles, naps, and the occasional nap. Somewhat incoherent because it was guided by reader votes while it was being written

Written: Unending FAIL.

Or, this year, “Christmas (observed)”. I thought about going grocery shopping but instead did absolutely nothing.

Watched: The School for Good and Evil: Apparently I read the book several years ago, but either I don’t remember any of it, or the movie is heavily modified, but it was entertaining anyway. Who even needs Gryffindors and Ravenclaws anyway? (Not that the Hufflepuffs would want anything to do with the Evers and their fake goodness.)

Read: The Maid I Hired Recently is Mysterious vol 4 (Wakame Konbu): It’s good to see the maid’s schtick breaking down in the face of growing feelings.

Written: FAIL.

Hurray, I’m on vacation! Boo, I’m on call!

The customers were worse than I hoped, but not nearly as bad as I feared, and I wasn’t even on call until after I managed to go grocery shopping and get lunch, so I guess it wasn’t that bad.

Read: The Grand Conspiracy (Terry Mixon, JN Chaney): This volume is all about inter-human conflict because there’s a break in the alien onslaught, and what human would work with other humans to survive when instead they could die with slightly more toys than that other guy?

Read: Holstaurus Magic (Warren Thomas): Extremely raunchy smut. Not really LitRPG even though set in a VRMMORPG. Does cater to certain specific interests, but there is a lot of regular banging too.

Read: Komi Can’t Communicate vol 22 (Tomohito Oda): Further NYC adventures. Also, only 22 volumes into the series, Komi is communicating almost entirely in speech! Whispers, but definite speech, not writing!

Written: FAIL. No brain.

Did nothing all day until it was time to go over to Ayse and Ken’s and partake in a feast which I had no hand in creating. Arguably that’s the best kind, and I know it makes my friends happy to feed people they love, so I’m probably just having an existential crisis. Anyway, it was an amazing feast, and there was even rainbow jello, so everybody was happy and also round. There may have been hugs.

Then I stayed up until a million o’clock doing pretty much nothing, so uh good holiday I guess?

Read: Talyn: Rebirth (Benjamin Medrano): LitRPG, main character is a succubus but actually tasteful, something is up with the system.

Someday this will be Guillotine Day instead, but for now it is just a day when many things are closed. I did manage to do grocery shopping and get lunch tacos, although only one of those has a convenient tipping option.

I once again accomplished nothing, although this time I had the excuse of being on call. It’s not much of an excuse.
